New Mexico and eastern Arizona mineral deposits fieldtrip

February 14th-28th 2001

Day 1 (Wednesday 14th)
Flight from Montréal to Albuquerque NM. Drive to Grants, stop at the McCartys Flow.
Day 2 (Thursday 15th)
Visit Grants' New Mexico Mining Museum. Drive to Farmington
Day 3 (Friday, 16th)
Visit the San Juan coal mine (San Juan Coal Company). Visit Aztec ruins, and sunset at Shiprock.
Day 4 (Saturday, 17th)
Drive to Four Corners, through Monument Valley AZ, and to Holbrook AZ.
Day 5 (Sunday 18th)
Visit the Petrified Forest, drive to Morenci.
Day 6 (Monday 19th)
Visit the Morenci mine. Drive to Silver City NM.
Day 7 (Tuesday, 20th)
Visit the Chino mine. Drive to Lordsburg.
Day 8 (Wednesday, 21st)
Visit the Steeple Rock district with Virginia McLemore of the New Mexico Bureau of Mine and Mineral Resources. Drive to Deming.
Day 9 (Thursday, 22nd)
Visit the Victorio district and the Copper Flat mine. Drive to Alamogordo.
Day 10 (Friday, 23rd)
Visit the Orogrande district, and the White Sands National Monument. Drive to Carlsbad.
Day 11 (Saturday, 24th)
Visit the Mississippi Potash mine and Carlsbad caves.
Day 12 (Sunday, 25th)
Drive to Socorro (through Roswell).
 
Day 13 (Monday, 26th)
Visit the New Mexico mineral museum. Visit of the Waldo mine, used by the NMT as a research facility. Visit the Very Large Array. Get-together with NMT Student Chapter members.
Day 14 (Tuesday, 27th)
Drive to Albuquerque. Visit the Natural Sciences Museum.
 
Day 15 (Wednesday, 28th)
Fly back to Montréal.
